I just finished watching Kinky Boots and immediately told Jo Ann that it's a must see. :)

Loved the movie! It's about Charlie Price who is stuck running the family business (a shoe factory) after his father's death. As luck would have it he meets Lola, a drag queen singer-performer extraordinaire, and is inspired to change their product (after Lauren suggested it) in an attempt to save the business. They go from formal men's shoes to flamboyant, excellent, ass-kicking drag queen boots. There are of course deeper themes, but that's what starts everything.

It has an awesome cast too. Joel Edgerton plays Charlie. You might remember him as Owen Lars from Star Wars and Gawain from King Arthur. Chiwetel Ejiofor plays Lola and has also been in Inside Man, Love Actually and Four Brothers. Jemina Rooper plays Charlie's fiance, Nicola. I seem to be seeing a lot of her lately on BBC America. She's on a show called Hex...well, was because I think it only lasted 2 seasons and the 1st one just ended. And Lauren is played by Sarah-Jane Potts who appeared in Felicity (Loved that show!), NYPD Blue and is now on Sugar Rush.

Great cast, awesome and completely entertaining movie.

Last night we went to Kudeta for Yaretzza's bday party. It was pretty packed. My cousin had never been there, but you never would've thought that since he knew almost everyone there!

After a couple of hours we went down the street to Pink Skirt. Severely packed! And awesome music. Of course if you read the entry below this album, the whole shoving incident happened there. No problem, I still enjoyed my night.

The topic at hand today is how to maneuver through a crowded bar. Most people know how to do this, but you'd be surprised at the amount of inconsiderate people out there.

So, there are 2 appropriate ways:

1. Let the person know you would like to pass by saying something polite to them. Excuse me seems to work quite well.

2. If the place is too loud for words (which they usually are), it's quite all right to place your hand on the person's shoulder or back to get their attention. That way they know you want to pass.

That seems simple enough right? Well, last night I had a bit of a problem with one girl who doesn't seem to know these basic thigns. I was standing there with my cousin and this girl walks from the bar towards the back which is where the bathrooms are located. On her way there, she bumps into me. She didn't look back or appologize. Even though she spilled my drink, I let it go. Now, I don't know what she was doing, but she came back pretty quickly. And wouldn't you know it...she bumped into me and spilled my drink, AGAIN!

That pissed me off. Once, I can let it go. Twice, seriously depends on the person and my mood. The fact that she didn't even appologize and she did it twice...I ended up shoving her back. Wow, this girl went off the deep end for sure. She started going off saying all this crap. I just stood there looking up at the ceiling and making my point that she shoved and spilled my drink twice. She finally went back to where she was standing at the bar. To avoid any other crap with this retard girl, I took a different spot far away from her. She was probably on something because after all that she came right up to my cousin and asked him for a cigarette. Which he didn't give her and laughed in her face :) I later on saw her arguing with some dude and she walked away from him. I turned around and told him "that girl is rude". He completely agreed with me and said he's been trying to get her to change, that she has attitude, that she just goes off. Crazy girl.

Let me tell you about how crappy and annoying the past couple of days have been:

1. Corrupt Database
--------> For a while, I had noticed that my celphone was doing strange things. The first thing I noticed was that these blank lines appeared in the ID Caller Window. They go from one side to the other making the icons, clock, caller name, etc look like dashes. The second thing that went wrong was with the phone book. During my last DC trip I tried to add someone to my phone and I got an error. A big red circle with an "X" in the middle came up. I didn't really know what that was. So I tried deleting someone and it wouldn't let me. Then it went crazy changing numbers around and there were all these blank spaces that weren't there before. Also, some people disappeared without me doing anything. So I left it alone. I decided to take it to the Sprint store a couple of days ago. The Sprint dude tells me that it's going to be $15 to check it out and if it can be fixed, it would cost around $35-55. No problem. I come back a couple of hours later and the dude tells me that my phone just doesn't work anymore. I was like "What does that mean?" He just said that it doesn't work anymore and that they'd give me a new phone for $35. Ok. I look at the phone they wanted to give me and it was CRAP. I didn't really understand why they just give that crap phone since there were others that were better and cheaper. So I was pissed off at the whole thing and decided that it wasn't worth it. I took my damaged phone back since it still receives and makes calls & text messages fine. I'll just use it until it dies or I switch companies...which is what I'm looking to do anyway. But like Chris said in DC, "your database is corrupt".
If you remember, this isn't the first time I've had phone issues. Please refer to: http://suzy.dabu.com/1/1698-Mysterious-Moisture and http://suzy.dabu.com/1/1707-Update-No-Phone-For-You

2. Computer Problems
--------------> When it comes to computers, when it rains, it pours! Man...if it's not one thing it's another. A few days ago, my computer was automatically restarting. Then it would beep at me. WTF! So I thought something must be wrong with the hard drive. I openned it up and realized that it was over-heating. This is not a problem it had before, but I did look up some info and the power supply shouldn't be so high up so its not sucking the hot air out well. So I just left the case open. Just in case I ran error-check to see if there were any problems with the drive and it came up fine. About two days after that, an extra icon appears on my desktop: Poker.com - The King of Online Poker. Seriously, WTF!!!! I checked out the icon's path and it was an webpage shortcut. Of course I didn't click on it. I deleted it, restarted and of course, it came back. I searched my computer and the only thing that would come up with poker was that icon. So I looked around the folders and found another icon in the Common Files folder. Just as a precaution I always disconnected from the internet while trying to get rid of this thing. I have no idea where it came from and my system is up-to-date. I ran Norton, Ad-Aware, Spybot and Windows Defender...none of them detected anything wrong. I did this in safe mode also...nothing. I sat there in start up with the Task Manager open to see the Processes that would pop-up and run. They all checked out fine. So I called up some friends. Tom was about to help me when I had to hang up on him....sorry. I was up till 3am looking up info on how to get rid of this ridiculous crap. So the next day, Rob calls me and gives me some advice. Since Norton wasn't detecting it, I went to Mcafee's site and ran their free scan. HELLO! It found 3 malware items on my computer.

---------->The f#cked up thing is that these viruses are old news to the anti-virus companies. For whatever reason, the different AV companies give the same virus different names. It just makes things harder when you search Symantec for a virus Mcafee found. Your search will more likely come up with nothing. Same virus...different name! Retarded. Even more f#cked up is the fact that if these viruses are old, that implies that the old virus definitions should protect you from them hence blocking their entrance into your computer. Wow, that sounds logical, eh? Guess that doesn't matter. So in the end, I was able to get rid of the trash. I scanned it two more times online at different points of the night and it came up clean, so my computer frustration is gone.....for now. I hate computers.

Last night we had a good-bye party for Jorge with a Mexican theme. In a few hours he'll be on his way to Mexico and the hell of med school will begin. There was lots of food, lots of family, lots of friends and lots of noise. Good time.

Food:
Soft and Hard Shell Tacos (chicken & beef) - cheese, guacamole etc
Arroz Vago
2 Baked Hams w/ Pineapple
Tortilla Mejicana
Potato Salad w/ Egg
Bruschetta
Chips & Dip
Cielito Lindo
Jamonilla con Piña Dip
Assorted Cheese Platter
Chocolate Cake
Dulce de Leche w/ Cajeta
(and the Churros never got made.....Andrea)

With all that food, you'd think there would be left overs right? Wrong. The only thing left is the churro mix and the Dulce de Leche.

I was sitting in my room watching MTV when I hear my mother scream and yell. "GANO PUERTO RICO!" So congrats to Zuleyka Rivera Mendoza of Puerto Rico who is now Miss Universe.

I didn't even know Miss Universe was on tonight. I can't remember the last time I watched the whole show anyway, so it's no biggie to me. But it's cool that PR won, it makes people happy and many parties in the streets will follow. It was nice to see that the chosen PR delegate didn't look like Dayanara Torres. Not that I have anything against her, she's beautiful. It just seemed that every other year after she won, the PR delegate had a close resemblance to her...in my humble opinion.

Change is good people! :)

Early this morning family members from the states rolled into town. They were supposed to arrive around 2am. Well, first thing was there was a date mix-up so we ended up waiting for then on the 22nd instead of the 23rd. So there we were awake and no calls. That's when we were told about the date.

So this morning at around 2am, I check the airline website and see their flight is an hour late. So we finally go get them after 3am and come straight home. After some chit chat everyone went to bed and I got to see the sunrise for free...without having spent a dime at a bar. I was tired, but oh well. Sleep wasn't all that good either. Dogs barking...phone rang early...sunlight coming through the severely exposed windows...doorbell.

I think I might pass out later :)

Tuesday was a slow night. Went out with some peeps :P and chilled at Pink Skirt. Yeah it was quiet and calm, something I hadn't seen a very long time. Even so, we did manage to have quite a few drinks and shots. Jagermeister...Ugh! So changing venues to Señor Frogs was mentioned, but I didn't want to. I'd been there after the world cup game and that was enough. It was still a good time.

Last night I went with Arnaldo to Taller Ce to listen to a band. The place was interesting and cool. At the door we were greeted by a chic dressed in fishnet stockings and booty shorts. Next to her there was yet another chic dressed in the pin-up girl outfit handing out free condoms.

All around the place there were these huge print outs of naked women. Then the band came out and did their thing. It started out a little rocky, but they recovered fine.

I was watching VH1's show World Series of Pop Culture. If you don't know what that is, it's a game show. Teams compete against each other answering all sorts of questions related to pop culture. So the episode I saw tonight had this team called "El Chupacabra". When they asked the first participant from the team what that meant, the girl did answer correctly...almost.

She said the mythical Chupacabra was from Mexico. MEXICO!!! Oh no, honey...Chupacabra is as Puerto Rican as "el coqui" (our national tree frog). Unfortunately, the legend of the Chupacabra started right here on this island. The Chupacabra is this animal that kills and sucks livestock's blood. People who swear they've seen this creature say it's like a cross between an ape and a bat. I don't know. Do I believe in the Chupacabra? Uh...No. I laugh anytime the news reports on a suspected Chupacabra attack and use it to scare my sister. :) It's been a while actually since there's been a report on it though. The last one I know of was that it had attacked the livestock at this fair type thing next to the Montehiedra mall.

So why do people associate the beginnings of the Chupacabra animal with Mexico? I don't know. Maybe it's X-Files fault. They had an episode once where a Mexican guy (in Mexico) turned into a Chupacabra. Yes, there have been sightings and reports of it in other countries, Mexico being one of them. Even so, the X-Files was wrong and this girl was wrong. As much as I wish it wasn't, the Chupacabra is from PR.

People, do your research: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chupacabra

It seems as if it's been raining forever. Last month we barely couldn't get through a whole day at camp without it raining and messing up the activity schedule. That just made things harder because the kids just wanted to run around. Instead, they were stuck inside getting on each other's nerves...and mine.

Then I left for DC and it was raining over there also. It's the wettest summer I can remember. These days it's been storming in the morning hours. That's not too condusive to getting out of bed. I find myself just pulling the covers over my head and enjoying the nice chill. Good sleeps. :)

Looks like more rain anyway...or so they said on the news tonight. I guess I'll just have to listen to more new music. I checked out The Sounds on myspace and for the past 2 days that's all I've been listening to.They're definitely addictive, I think. What do they sound like? I don't know...catchy-energetic-indie-synth-rock-pop. Does that clear it up? :) Check 'em out: http://www.myspace.com/thesounds

World Cup 2006 Champs: Italy.

Most people I know were rooting for France, but I wanted Italy to win. That's the team I always used in our Fifa tournaments. And the one I beat King B with...sorry Brian, you know I had to bring that up. :)

So I went to Logan's Pub with some people to watch the game. Sometime after half time a news crew walks in and starts filming the crowd. It was Telemundo. The game was good, lots of exciting moments. And what was up with the head-butting event??? After the initial surprise I just started laughing!

At the end of the game, the reporter interviewed some people and later on we saw it on tv. One mistake though...Instead of saying they were at Logan's Pub, they said Shannan's Pub. Oops. I guess it's habit since Logan's is where Shannan's used to be.

So my DC trip is over and I'm back home. It was an awesome time and I wish I could hang out with everyone more. But I shall see everyone soon...I know it ;)

My trip wasn't as planned as I liked so I didn't see too many people that weren't invovled in whatever we had going on already. That was mainly my fault because working at the summer camp the month before didn't leave me with much time to get in touch with folks. I'll do better next time around. Even so, it was a hell of a good time.

The day before I left Alyssa asks me at the restaurant we were at "what are you drinking?" To which I responded, "water". "That's boring", she said. "Well, I have to be sober at some point on this trip", I replied :) Of course that didn't last because after I got back to the city, Verena called me to hang out. So we went out with Tom and Charles till 2am. So much for my sober day :) Good times! I was awake forever afterwards though because of the Red Bull. I think I'll stay away from that (plus it's horrible tasting...don't know how people drink it).

Now I think I need a vacation from my vacation :)

This was the first 4th of July that I'd been back in the states since 1999. The usual suspects were all present: refreshments of the fermented kind, food for BBQ, good people and fireworks. Great time was had by all.

Sunday we had an pre-bbq to get ready for the 4th. Even the praying mantis came to visit. I left early to finally make it up to DC and hang with my brother.

Monday we went to yet another bbq. After that we ended up at Polly's where we proceeded to drink many drinks and laugh at some crazy stories.
