Happy 5 de Mayo 2006!
Last night we celebrated 5 de Mayo...you know, just an excuse to go out and party :)
Our first stop was a small bar near my house called 20-20. I don't know why it's called that. We had a few drinks and chatted with the people there and then we were off to our 2nd destination, Shannan's Pub. It cracks me up...PRicans celebrating a Mexican holiday (or a supposed holiday) in an Irish pub. :) Shannan's was good. It wasn't packed while we were there which was great. Around 11pm everyone was pretty good and toasty so we headed out. I didn't want to go home yet, so I met up with other friends and continued on to Old San Juan. Now that was packed! We were sitting in traffic trying to get into OSJ for like an hour. We were like "F*ck it! Let's park here and walk". It was a nice long walk, but there wasn't going to be parking inside anyway. It was cool. So we headed up to Cafe San Sebastian where apparently they had run out of beer. That's how many people were there and it just took forever to try and get a drink. We then headed to Pink Skirt which is always good. I even ran into some people from my high school there. Good 5 de Mayo celebrations I'd say :)
Happy Birthday Darren!

So here's the skinny on digital cameras: They don't like water. :)
My camera: Pentax Optio S4. I didn't think my camera got that wet on tuesday. I protected it as best I could and my left side wasn't as wet as my right. It worked all through the night till we left Pink Skirt. But it was already acting funny by the end. Now, the camera powers on and all the buttons work, but it won't take pictures. That's the only button that refuses to work.
I'm surprised my camera lasted as long as it did. I didn't mistreat it or anything...or atleast not on purpose. I've had it since 2001 I believe. First of all, it was already slightly used when I got it. Then, it's survived many Dabu parties and even a pretty high fall for a camera complements of Chris. It was sitting peacefully on a restaurant table and drunk Chris when to give someone a hug. He accidentally hit my camera and knocked it off the table.
The only time it acted weird was this past October. Sumo Suzy had too much to drink and according to friends, liquids had been spilled on it. It survived and kept working. Since then, though, changes in temperature haven't been a good thing. And I guess it just had enough. So if no miracle happens, I should start looking into getting a new one.
I like Pentax. Anyone want to give me a free digital Pentax camera? :)

Last night La Oreja De Van Gogh was in PR. If you don't know who they are, they're an awesome band from Spain. During the afternoon, they were at Borders signing autographs because their new cd is out now. At night, they had a short free concert in Old San Juan. Even though I was at the mall running errands yesterday, I didn't even attempt to join the massive line to see them...way too many people. I did go with a couple of other people to see them in Old San Juan. It rained all day yesterday and I was hoping that it would cease by 9, but no luck. It was rainning when we got to Old San Juan and it didn't stop. Concert was still on though :) So I made my usual way through the crowd until I reached the front. I was surrounded by people who had umbrellas, so I was pretty sheltered. I did however manage to find myself behind this super tall girl. Of course! She starts complaining about how she's getting wet. Everyone was getting wet...it was rainning buckets! I was trying to figure out a way to get passed her, so finally I told her that if she wanted we could switch places. That way she'd be under the umbrellas and I'd get wet since I didn't care. And that's how I got to the front :)
LODVG finally came on stage and people went crazy. I completely missed their concert last time they were here, so a free short presentation was cool to see. It was worth getting drenched. Of course now my camera is acting funny so it's on bed rest. Hopefully, it'll recover. :)

It seems that I'm never in PR when Las Justas are held. This year I was and wasn't going to go, but I ended up going yesterday. For all those who don't know what Las Justas are, it's universities competing against each other in athletic events. Technically that's what it is, but in reality it's one huge street party from wed/thur through the weekend where it seems that the entire island decended on Ponce.
Saying Ponce was packed is an understatement. At one point we were trying to make our way through the crowd. I had a drink in my hand and little by little we squeezed our way through like everyone else. Out of nowhere these 2 byotches come running through and one bumps into me spilling the drink on me, on the guy behind me and on herself. Since she bumped into me pretty hard I held onto her arm to regain my balance, yelled at her "COGELO CON CALMA!" and threw her to the side....which she then just bounced off some other person and continued to run her way through the crowd. Aside from that, it was a great time. We found a place that was playing electronica, went up to the balcony and stayed there till 2am.

Last night a bunch of us went out to celebrate Andrea's 25th birthday. First stop was at Dragonfly for some food. Dragonfly is nice, the food is great and it's kinda dark in there. We got there at the reservation time, but there was a huge group just sort of loitering for the longest time. We had to wait at the bar for more than an hour.
Second stop was at the brewery. I think it's called Old Harbor something or other. I'm not a beer drinker, but we had their sampler, a couple of pints and shots :) We ended up being the last one's there and we closed the place. After that a couple of us went to Pink Skirt and had a great time.

At the end of last week, my sister arrives home with yet another dog. Apparently there was some confusion over what she was bringing home.
The dog belonged to a friend of hers who had found it on the street about a year ago. Turns out the dog is an older dog. She has to be older than 10 years old. She's slightly blind, has an ear infection, had a haircut because all her hair/fur was in knots and her tongue hangs out of her mouth because she only has 3 teeth. The first time I saw her, she reminded me of Mr. Winkle.

I don't really know what's going to happen with this dog. Her name, or atleast the one she was given at her previous home is Gamuza. That translates into Lint or Lint ball....had to be because of the knotted hair.
Today we took her to the Humane Society to be checked out and it seems she's ok. The vet did tell us that her teeth were removed. That was weird to here. Who would do that? And more importantly, why? Apparently the "colmillos" are teeth that are so deep into the jaw bone, they typically don't fall out by themselves. So, someone either had them removed or she was in some accident. I don't really know what to think. She was definitely a dog that was well kept wherever she first lived since she's spaded. People usually don't go around spading dogs and them letting them loose on the streets. Then somewhere along the line she lost all, but 3 teeth and now she's here at my house.
We'll see what happens.

Today we (Andrea, her mom Debbie, Carrie and myself) went on a Duck Tour of Old San Juan. I didn't even know they did these tours here. Apparently it's a new thing. It was interesting. The guy on the mic gave one hell of a history lesson of the city. I didn't take any land pictures for some reason, but I did take pictures when we were in the water.
If you want more info on the duck tour, visit their website: http://www.captainduck.com/
After that we hit the beach (Ocean Park) for a couple of hours with my sister.

My friend Carrie is in PR this week.
Took her 10 years, but she finally made it :)
I have awesome friends. I now have my LG monitor back on 'cause Aya ordered the adapter and mailed it to me. Thank you so much Aya and of course I'll be paying you back a.s.a.p.
Thankfully, it was only the adapter that was fried by the power outage and not the monitor. Ahhhhhhhh! <- Sigh of relief :)
I still don't understand the whole "Oh, we don't ship to PR" crap. I mean, I would understand if shipping costs were different, but they're not. We use the same postal services as the US! Whatever, they're the one's who are losing business.

On thursday I went to Naguabo with the family. I can't really stand it there because my parents blast music that's so slow and dull it literally puts you in a coma. And g-d forbid it gets changed to something else for 5 min! We were there because of Good Friday services and what not...they like what they do over there.
So friday rolls around and we're all ready for the procession. As soon as we get there, it starts to rain buckets. It was like a mini hurricane came out of nowhere. We took shelter over where they sell snacks and stuff. There was so much wind, the rain was coming down sideways, pieces of branches were falling right next to us and the tarps/canopies that were placed infront of the church so the overflow of people would be out of the sun, just blew away like paper. After it stopped the procession continued and into church it went.
Out of everything, I thought it was funny that there was this lady standing around holding a sign that said, Silence:

This was the lady's job...making sure that everyone was quiet. I saw her wave it emphatically once or twice at people. I chuckled, but that's ok because I was outside so I wasn't disturbing anyone. What if someone wouldn't stay silent? Could you imagine this lady losing her cool and smacking someone over the head with the sign? That would be hilarious! :)

Last night I went to Kudeta with friends. There was a party with a couple of local DJ's and Todd Sines. It was all good. I actually think that the crowd was more into the local DJ's. Even though they were behind one of the bars and elevated, they were really engaging.
Later on we stopped by the Pink Skirt which is always good. There was a little weirdness 'cause some people just don't understand when you don't want to dance with them. After we left there, we hit Ponderosa. What else is there to do at 8am, but eat breakfast :)

Last night we celebrated Viviana's birthday at Tablas. The place was packed and a good time was had by all. I did have to suffer through 2 hours of reggaeton, but that's ok. :)

Today the power company came by. They apparently were checking the gages/counters on the houses around my neighborhood. This isn't uncommon. So the dude knocks on the door and lets me know that they're going to turn the power off for a second. I said ok and they did their job. The power was back on in like 2 minutes.
So I go to my room and turn my computer back on. I try to turn my monitor on also and nothing happened. My thought at that moment, "Ah Sh*t! Please turn on! Please!". So I checked the connection hoping that something came loose. Nope. That's when I noticed that the little green led light on the monitor's ac adapter wasn't on. Even though my monitor didn't turn on, this little fact made me feel slightly better. Now my thought was, "ok so the light isn't on, hopefully just the ac adapter was damaged and not my monitor". Seems logical enough right? I hope. I won't know for sure until I get another adapter and try it out. So I started going down the list of things to do:
1. Check the warranty
2. Check online
3. Call LG
4. Check CompUSA
Like always warranties are for sh*t, so that option was gone. I checked online at various places and none of them had the adapter I need. I even checked the LG sites and can you believe there isn't an accessories page to buy this crap online?! So I decided to call them up. I got through incredible fast and actually spoke to someone who had a regular american accent. That just surprised me because everyone knows that most of these jobs have been outsourced. Anyway, so of course they have the adapter, but they don't ship to Puerto Rico. Isn't that just lovely? Doesn't that just top my day off? :)
There are businesses that exclude PR. Why? Well, their excuse is that our physical credit card address isn't in the continental United States so therefore they can't ship here. Nevermind the fact that we use the same currency, the same credit card companies and the same Unites States Post Office...they're still unable to do business with PR. Maybe it has something to do with trade, I don't know, but I still don't understand it. It's the same deal with some cheap airline websites. Some exclude PR because of the reason mentioned above, yet others somehow are able to do business with us. Weird, huh?
So, now I'm left with going to CompUSA to see if they have an equivalent to my adapter. If not, then I'll have to figure out a 5th option. Ugh...I only have myself to blame for not turning my computer off, but I guess this would've happened eventually because of PR's famous power surges/outages.

Last night I was all showered and ready for bed when Tatyana asks me if I wanted to go see Armin Van Buuren. So I got ready and like 3 hours later we were on our way. The place they chose to have this event was up a mountain, kind of like in the middle of nowhere. When we got there I realized I'd been there before when I was little. It was a fun night of techno-trance music. After a couple of hours, we left and hit The Pink Skirt. I have no idea at what time that place closes. Last night (or this morning) is the latest I've ever gotten there and the latest I've ever left...and it was still open! Went to bed at 9am :)
